
Maraú means (in the indigenous language) “the light of dawn”, this beautiful region is situated between the Dendé and Cacau Coasts, It is a ambient protected area with its 40km of fine sanded deserted beaches, rivers, crystal clear waterfalls, coral reefs, mangroves, Atlantic Forests and diverse eco-systems.
It has a humid tropical climate with an average temperature of 26ºc.

HOW TO GET HERE
From Ilhéus (1 ½ hr by car)
Leaving Ilhéus, follow the BA-001 in direction Itacaré-Salvador.Before arriving in Itacaré, at the roundabout keep left and go direction Camamú-Salvador. Continue for 14 km until the next roundabout, taking the exit for Maraú/Barra Grande, now entering the BR-030, dirt road. Now you continue on the dirt track for 24km until you see the sign for Praia dos Algodões on your right. Soon after 400meters you´ll be able to follow the signs for Casa del Mar.
From Salvador de Bahía (6 hrs by car).
Embark on the ferry boat to Bom Despacho, Itaparica, with departures every hour from downtown Salvador.
Arriving in Bom Despacho follow the BA-001 direction Valença/Camamu for 180km, passing through nazaré, Ituberá…. until Camamu continuing along the BA-001 for another 36km until arriving at the roundabout where you´ll turn left onto the BR-030 (dirt road), in direction Maraú-Barra Grande, straight road for another 24km until seeing the signs to turn right to Praia dos Algodões. Soon after +- 400m, you´ll be able to follow the signs for Casa del Mar.
